Glass Partitions: How Brighter Office Are Good For Employees

The main attraction of replacing solid wall partitions with glass screens in an office is that it opens up the space, making it appear much brighter and lighter.

As the natural light from windows is able to flow through the glass partition walls and spread across the whole floor, this means the light is not blocked by dark walls and the office does not have to be unnecessarily lit by artificial light.

Not only is having a greater amount of daylight in the office more aesthetically pleasing, but it could have a lot of benefits for employees.

For a start, it can reduce incidences of seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which impacts six per cent of the population. A lack of natural light can make people feel depressed, fatigued, experience insomnia, lose their appetite or overeat, have trouble concentrating and potentially even consider suicide.

Therefore, it is important to get as much natural daylight as possible to minimise symptoms.

Natural light can also increase levels of vitamin D, helping to reduce the risk of heart disease, some cancers and weight gain, and keep bones and muscles strong. A lack of vitamin D can result in bone conditions, such as rickets or osteomalacia.

Workers who are exposed to natural light in the office are more likely to get better sleep at night as well. This report revealed workers with windows in the workplace typically had longer and better quality sleep.

A well-rested employee is more likely to be energetic, efficient and dynamic when in the office, as opposed to a tired, lethargic and depressed one. Therefore, investing in glass partitions could be well worth it, as it could lead to a more productive, happier, healthier and more loyal workforce.
