Office buildings all around the country filled up with staff for the first time in weeks, after the working-from-home order came to an end.

Last week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the removal of Plan B measures to protect against the spread of Covid-19, including encouraging employees to return to work.

Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Steve Barclay stated this was a sign “we are learning to live with Covid”, adding: “We need to move away from a reliance on video meetings and get back to the benefits of face-to-face, collaborative working.”

As a result, he asked government departments to lead by example by encouraging staff to return to the office as quickly as possible.

He stated: “It is important that we now see the maximum use of our office space being made from next week.”

It seems as though his words had an effect, as there was a six per cent increase in the number of entry and exists on the Underground on Monday (January 24^th) morning up to 10:00 compared with the previous Monday, the Daily Mail reported.

As well as revealing 1.06 million people used the Underground that morning, Transport for London also reported 1.17 million boarded buses in the city, representing a rise of one per cent from the week before.

While this is still 45 per cent of pre-pandemic levels for Underground users and 69 per cent for bus passengers, it is a sign that staff are slowly returning to the city for work.
