Our Top Tips For The Perfect Christmas Window Display

There are just a few short weeks until Christmas 2021, which means that now’s the perfect time for brands to do all they can to encourage people through their doors to do their festive shopping… and what better way to do this than with a stunning Christmas window display?

It always pays to look at what big-name brands are up to in this regard to see if you can come away with some inspiration and ideas for your own windows – and one of the very best pioneers of the festive window display absolutely has to be Harrods.

The London-based superstore has embraced technology fully this year, with its modern window display featuring a QR code that directs people to the website and activates augmented reality (AR) animations – a great way to interact with your customers and maximise your festive sales!

The Witness a Spectacle window showcases all sorts of luxury products by big brands, all laid out on tables – much like a sumptuous Christmas feast. The QR code also allows customers to experience lots of fun festive filters, with each window having its own AR content.

Or what about checking out Harvey Nichols’ windows if you’re keen to avoid tech and go for something more traditional instead?

The brand’s display this year features some truly beautiful modern stained glass panels, with lights behind them reflecting a pattern of festive colours onto the pavement outside.

This is such a simple yet effective idea and perhaps something that could be relatively easily recreated for your own shop window. Passersby are sure to fall in love with your display and pop in to say hi!

Of course, these are just two examples and you may well want to go it alone, coming up with your own unique and wonderful window display. No matter your theme or the time of year, there are some universal concepts that should always be applied in order to get it right.

For example, product layout is important and you should spend some time working out how to choose and position your products. The number of items on display is important, as too few and it will look like you don’t have much to sell but too many and it will make your window cluttered, messy and unappealing.

Also think about the focal point of your window, which is around 1.5m up. This is where the eye will instinctively travel to first, so would be the perfect place for your top products, those you really want people to focus on above all others. From there, the next window position hotspot is towards the right, so put your other favourites there, and the remainder on the left-hand side.

And finally, a theme and story is essential for your window display. This is quite easy to come up with at Christmas time, whether you want a traditional nativity scene, children waiting for Father Christmas to come, the Nutcracker or something else. The only limit is your imagination!
